The Problem: Comparing Rates By Hand
Freight aggregators hold contracts with several carrier accounts, and the cheapest one changes with every lane, weight and dimension. Doing that comparison manually for each booking is slow, easy to get wrong, and quietly expensive at volume.
A Rate Engine That Asks Everyone At Once
The core of the platform quotes three carrier accounts in parallel and returns the cheapest result with the spread attached. Because the calls run concurrently and a failing account can't block the others, checking three accounts costs roughly the time of checking one.
Pricing That Reflects How Freight Actually Bills
Freight charges on chargeable weight, not the number on the scale. The engine derives volumetric weight from dimensions and box count, takes the higher of the two, then selects the correct CFT bucket before pricing — which is where the accuracy that protects margin comes from.
One System, Not Five Tools
Around 25 dashboard modules cover the whole operation: quotes, single and bulk shipment booking, pickups, warehouses, LR documents, live tracking, per-customer rate cards, wallets, invoicing, approvals, support tickets and reporting — plus admin tooling for carrier accounts and leads.
Multi-tenant By Design
Every customer sees their own contracted pricing and only their own data. A role-permission matrix is enforced in middleware on every route, all payloads are validated with Zod, and every write operation produces an audit log entry.
Built To Run In Production
JWT sessions in httpOnly cookies, API rate limiting, cached carrier tokens with automatic re-authentication, PDF document generation, Excel reporting, and containerised Docker deployment with persistent storage for data and uploads.
What we built
Parallel Rate Engine
Every quote fires at three carrier accounts simultaneously and returns the cheapest freight option — with the spread shown, so the saving on each booking is visible rather than assumed.
CFT Weight Optimisation
Volumetric weight is calculated from dimensions and box count, chargeable weight taken as the higher of actual and volumetric, then bucketed into the right CFT category before pricing.
Shipments, Pickups & Tracking
Single and bulk shipment booking, warehouse and pickup scheduling, LR document generation, and scan-level tracking pulled straight from the carrier.
Billing, Wallet & Rate Cards
Per-customer contracted rate cards, wallet balances, invoice generation and billing profiles — so each client sees their own pricing, never the platform's internal routing.
Multi-tenant RBAC
A role-permission matrix enforced in middleware across every route, with approvals, support tickets and audit logging on all write operations.
Reports & Ops Dashboard
Live operational dashboards plus Excel and PDF exports, with pincode and transit-time data seeded from spreadsheets so coverage stays accurate as the network grows.
The work
Frequently Asked Questions
A multi-tenant B2B logistics platform for a Mumbai-based freight aggregator. It combines a public marketing site with a full operations dashboard — rate discovery, shipment booking, pickups, tracking, billing and reporting — all running on one system.
For every quote it calls three separate carrier accounts in parallel, waits for all responses, and returns the cheapest freight option. Because the requests run concurrently rather than one after another, checking three accounts takes about as long as checking one.
Freight is priced on chargeable weight, not just actual weight. The platform calculates volumetric weight from dimensions and box count, takes whichever is higher, then places the shipment in the correct CFT bucket before requesting rates — which is where most of the cost accuracy comes from.
No — and that's deliberate. Each customer sees their own contracted rate card. Which internal account a booking is routed through is an optimisation detail the platform handles invisibly.
Around 25 dashboard modules — shipments (single and bulk), quotes, tracking, pickups, warehouses, LR operations, billing, wallet, rate engine, customers, users, approvals, tickets and reports — plus admin tools for carrier accounts and leads, and a separate public marketing site.
JWT authentication in an httpOnly cookie, a role-permission matrix enforced by middleware on every route, Zod validation on all request payloads, API rate limiting, and audit logs written on every write operation. Errors never leak SQL, stack traces or credentials.
A Next.js and React frontend with Tailwind CSS, and a Node.js and Express backend using Knex for data access. It runs containerised on Docker, generates PDFs with PDFKit and Excel reports with SheetJS.
Yes — this platform is built entirely around third-party carrier APIs, including token caching, automatic re-authentication on expiry and graceful handling when one provider fails. The same approach applies to ERP, payment and accounting integrations.
This was built in phases — the rate engine and shipment booking first, then billing, reporting and admin tooling. That way the client had a usable system early instead of waiting for the whole platform. We scope and quote each phase after a free discovery call.
Yes — custom web applications like this are our core work. If your operation runs on spreadsheets, portal logins and manual comparisons, that's usually a strong case for a platform. Tell us how you work today and we'll map what it would take.
